Temporary Position: June 15, 2026 – November 30, 2026
Pay Range: $17–$18 per hour
Benefits: Paid Time Off (PTO)

Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Five additional hours on either Tuesday or Thursday

First Monday of each month: 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The Bemidji Community Food Shelf is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to help lead and support the volunteers who make our work possible. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming, organized, and supportive environment for volunteers and the community members we serve.
Position Overview
Help serve Bemidji area families experiencing food insecurity by recruiting, training, coordinating, and supporting volunteers involved in direct service. Encourage volunteer retention through relationship building, recognition, and ongoing support. Assist with processing donations and managing social media.
Responsibilities
Daily Responsibilities

Support and coordinate front-end and store volunteers

Help keep store and intake operations running smoothly
-
Welcome, encourage, and assist volunteers throughout the day
-
Answer questions and help solve day-to-day issues as they arise
Administrative & Coordination Responsibilities
-
Create volunteer schedules and help fill open shifts
-
Maintain volunteer and donor records
-
Process donations and coordinate acknowledgement letters
-
Complete required reports and paperwork
-
Communicate regularly with church representatives and partner agencies
-
Coordinate meetings, volunteer appreciation efforts, and recruitment activities

Help manage the senior food box program
-
Assist the Executive Director with additional projects as needed
Ongoing Responsibilities

Recruit and train volunteers for all areas of operations
-
Build positive relationships that encourage volunteer retention

Ensure volunteer coverage for daily operations and special projects

Coordinate volunteer groups and after-hours projects
-
Maintain assigned social media accounts
-
Provide tours and help create a welcoming environment for visitors and volunteers
-
Troubleshoot basic issues with tracking systems and technology

Strong communication and organizational skills

Comfortable working with volunteers and the public

Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt throughout the day

Basic computer and social media skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Passion for serving the community and supporting neighbors experiencing food insecurity
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
-
Work is performed in an office, warehouse, and community setting with frequent interaction with volunteers, staff, and the public.

Ability to be mobile and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.

Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.

Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through email.

Position may involve occasional outdoor work and travel within the community.

Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and flexibility.
